Your efforts and support for our organization and Team Flanagan 2012 helped us to raise more than $54,000 for JPFF. In less than four years, we have ensured -- through your generosity and support -- that the work of our organization will continue for many years to come.

It is only through your time, effort, and generous contributions that JPFF is able to help so many great causes that are positively impacting the lives of thousands of kids every year. I can think of no greater tribute to the life and memory of John Flanagan, and for that, you have my enduring gratitude.

2011 Half Marathon and 5K Race Weekend, June 25 & 26, 2011

This year’s run was a great success for the John Patrick Flanagan Foundation (JPFF). Thank you so much for participating in this heartwarming tribute to John and helping to fund the important causes that JPFF supports. For the third year in a row, we had a fantastic turnout for the Fairfield Half-Marathon and 5K Road Race as 100 runners donned the green Team Flanagan T-Shirts and competed in one of the two races. It was especially touching to have so many children running!

Together we raised more than $50,000- amazing! Please know that every dollar donated for this event will go directly to funding our grants and programs, and building our endowment. We are so thankful to all of you runners, donors, and sponsors for your incredible generosity. We are also so appreciative of you volunteers who donated your time and energy to plan and execute the event.

On behalf of the JPFF Board and the Flanagan family, please accept my most sincere thank you for making this event an amazing success and endorsing JPFF’s efforts.

Fondly,

Amanda Flanagan, Chairperson

2010 Fairfield Half Marathon, June 27, 2010

June 27, 2010 was an incredible day for the John Patrick Flanagan Foundation (JPFF). For the second year in a row, we had a fantastic turnout for the Fairfield Half-Marathon and 5K Road Race and JPFF Family Fun Day events. More than 110 runners donned the green Team Flanagan T-Shirts and competed in one of the two races, and in the process they raised more than $35,000! Please know that every dollar donated for this event will go directly to funding our grants and programs, and building our endowment. We are so thankful to all of you runners, donors, and sponsors.

Following the race, we held a JPFF “Family Fun Day” event on the grounds of the Connecticut Audubon Society, which is home to one of our flagship programs, the JPFF Trailblazers Program. This program brings inner-city children to the Audubon nature sanctuary for a nature science program, something John was very passionate about. It was a perfect venue and we are grateful to the Audubon staff for sharing it with us. Also, thank you to the dozens of friends and volunteers who donated their time and energy to plan and execute the event.

Please accept my most sincere thank you for making this event an amazing success.

Fondly,
Amanda Flanagan, Chairperson JPFF

JPFF Trailblazers Program at the Connecticut Audubon Society

This past Spring, 9 schools and 23 classes totaling 572 students participated in the John Patrick Flanagan Trailblazers program at Connecticut Audubon Society. Each year, teachers are contacted to participate in the program. Grade 4 is a perfect match for this program because their science curriculum focuses on animal adaptations and habitats. The field trip to the Audubon gives them the opportunity to explore native Connecticut habitats and see live animals. In addition to grade 4 classes, grades 2 and 6 were incorporated because the field trip complements their science curriculum as well.

The program also saw an interest from a special needs class at Harding High School. The special needs were mainly learning disabilities. Students with non traditional learning issues tend to remember more and conceptualize science, in particular, through hands-on experiences.

Relay for LIfe, June 6-7, 2009, Fairfield, CT

"The Class of 1982", a Relay team consisting of members of the Fairfeld Prep Class of 1982, reunited at the Fairfield Ludlowe High School to participate in the 2009 Relay for Life of Fairfield. Captained by Matthew Terry and Tom Ryan, the team walked overnight in support of all families impacted by cancer, but in particular for two colleagues who met at Fairfield Prep in 1979 - John Flanagan and Chad Jacobs. With ten official team members, the team raised more than $26,000 for the American Cancer Society - well above their goal of $5,000, and one of the largest donations by a single team. Relay for Life is an overnight, community event held in towns across the country and abroad. Teams of 8-15 walkers join with local cancer survivors in walking the track to raise funds for the American Cancer society's programs. For more information, please visit the official website at www.relayforlife.org/fairfieldct.
